Sun sign astrology is the form of astrology most commonly found in many newspaper and magazine columns. It is a simplified system of astrology which considers only the position of the Sun at birth, which is said to be placed within one of the twelve zodiac signs. This sign is then called the sun sign or star sign of the person born in that twelfth-part of the year.

Sun sign astrologers take this basic twelve-fold division and relate all the current movements of all the planets to each other, using traditional rules to divine meanings for each sign separately. Because the Moon has the fastest apparent movement of all the heavenly bodies, it is often used as the main indicator of daily trends for sun sign astrology forecasts.(Wikipedia)

My Sun Sign is Aquarius. There is absolutely no doubt I am an Aquarian through and through. Each time I find a new or different website that gives their definition of the Zodiac signs, no matter what they have written about Aquarius, I have those traits …every damn one of them. Yes, there are good traits and bad traits, but if a person has only one side of the spectrum, they aren’t walking in balance and will often find themselves stifled and angry.

Aquarius is the Water Bearer, an Air Element with a fixed Modality. The ruling planet is Uranus and it is a Positive polarity. Birthstones: Amethyst, Garnet, Hematite, and Amber.

Confused much? I’ll try to break it down and explain…

The sun is in Aquarius from January 20 to February 18, this will vary depending on which sites you get your information from and often times the year has some bearing on the dates as well.

The most predominant characteristic of anyone born under the sign of Aquarius is their refusal to follow the easiest course through life. They will not walk the beaten path and most often forge their own way and they become easily irritated by outdated ideas. Even though we are very open to the concept of change, we can also be very stubborn and our opinions are sometimes difficult to change.

When you are first introduced to an Aquarian you may feel we are standoffish or perhaps aloof (sheesh, yes that IS a word and description) but in most cases, we are very well liked and easy to get along with. We are extremely curious, observant and watch everything going on around us. We will mostly tolerate the everyday happenings of life but draw a very well-defined line in the sand when it comes to prejudice, bigotry, and intolerance from others.

Aquarians are intelligent and clever, making it difficult to fool us or deceive us. We are all about progress even though we sometimes will balk at an idea for change if it doesn’t make sense in the general sense of things. It is very hard to surprise, astonish, shock or confuse an Aquarian, we are on top of things.

“Be true to yourself” and Don’t follow the crowd” are two of the most common phrases an Aquarian will use. We are considered to be reformers, and want everyone to look deeper, look beyond the superficial and be open to new or change.

One of the most important aspects of someone born under the Sun Sign of Aquarius (at least to me) is we greatly value personal freedom, and if you try to set limits on us, stifle our life or censor our voices, you will fail, miserably. This is a two way street for us as well. We give what we are given and will treat everyone we meet as an equal regardless of where when who or why.

Equality is a major concept for us, we believe in fairness for all people and will work diligently to promote that fairness.

We are also considered to be the “mad scientist” and “humanitarian” at the same time. Aquarius energy helps us innovate, unite for social justice and follow our utopian ideals. It is important to understand the energy of this sign, as various planets travel (or “transit”) through Aquarius all year long, activating this sign’s windswept energy for everyone, regardless of your Sun sign.

Aquarius is one of the three zodiac signs ruled by the air element. The other two air Signs are Gemini and Libra. Since Aquarius is the third and final air sign, it combines Gemini’s playful gusts and Libra’s social butterfly whirlwind into a gale force of humanitarianism for all. Aquarius people are the visionaries of the zodiac, dreaming up quirky utopias and alternative realities that can shake up the status quo. Under the influence of an Aquarius planetary cycle, we might find ourselves joining a new social group, getting involved in social justice or using science and technology to better advance humankind.

Uranus is the planet that rules emotional detachment, unpredictable energy, and rebellion. In mythology, Uranus was the Sky God who mated with Gaia the Earth Goddess. He hated their children and imprisoned the youngest ones in the earth where they tormented Gaia. She made a sickle and asked her children to castrate Uranus. The youngest, Cronus (Saturn) did it. After that, the Sky and Earth became separate. Interestingly, Saturn was considered the ruling planet of Aquarius until Uranus was discovered and named. Structured Saturn is still thought of as the “minor ruler” of Aquarius. This can explain why many Aquarian can be “Type A” and totally quirky all at the same time.

Yep, all of this is me …to a “T”! LOL!
