The Feisty FaerieWitch

44 Days of Witch~Witchy Books That Influenced You?

Holy Crap! How do I even begin to write about this? My library of Witch books is huge, and I’m going to have to pick just a few to write about for this prompt … sheesh!

Fine … alright, let’s begin here:

To Ride A Silver Broomstick, To Stir A Magic Cauldron & To Light A Sacred Flame by Silver Ravenwolf (link to her Amazon author page) ~ yes, I know not many people like Silver Ravenwolf and that’s their prerogative. I DO like her and her books are a great way for a new Witch to begin learning. On the recommendation of someone who had been traveling the crooked path for quite a while, the very first “witch” book I ever bought was To Ride A Silver Broomstick. That quickly led to buying the next in the series and they became my “go to” for everything magical. These books are perfect for a beginner, the language is easy to read and understand without making yourself crazy trying to decipher what exactly is being said. Yes, they can make you feel like you are being talked down to IF you go into them with your ego showing. Use an open mind and really read what she’s saying, not what you want them to tell you.

The Inner Temple of Witchcraft by Christopher Penczak (link to his Amazon author page) ~ The Inner Temple of Witchcraft gave me my first basic of understanding the concept and process of meditation and deep soul searching. Since knowing how to find the sacred space inside you clear your mind and allowing your psychic abilities to give you direction and guidance are fundamental practices every Witch should know, this book is how to achieve that standard.

When God Was A Woman by Merlin Stone (link to her Amazon author page) ~ this is the ONE book that gave me a better understanding of the female aspect of Deity. Working with the Goddess was a challenge for me in the beginning, simply because I had grown up in a male dominated world and attended the Christian church for such a long time. Once I began my journey into Witch, reading everything I could find on Goddess worship or why the Goddess was relevant gave me a much clearer understanding of the how’s and why’s of Paganism.

Spiral Dance by Starhawk (link to her Amazon page) ~ Starhawk has been a huge influence within the Pagan community for oh so very long. When I read Spiral Dance, something came alive within me, broke free and has never been able to be contained ever again. This was the beginning of the modern rebirth of the Goddess movement and the history alone is so inspiring and compelling, I heartily recommend that everyone read this book, whether you are female or male, this will touch your heart and help to open your mind to fully understand there ARE greater things out there, you just need to be open to them. It’s also particularly relevant for the new practitioner including some get-your-toes-wet guidance and exercises for practice and crafting.

My bookshelves contain a wide variety of books on Witchy Books, these are the ones that influenced me as I began my journey.

Author: Vickie

I am Vickie, but known by many names, wife, mother, friend, BITCH! And each title I more than deserve. I have been defying description for more than half my lifetime. I occasionally have my sanity, although my circle of friends might disagree with that; I’m a mix of opposites, random, different and unconventional. I’m a self taught know it all and even though I can admit I really don’t know everything, I do know enough to carry on a conversation with most anyone. Some call me mouthy, I freely speak my mind…I do NOT tolerate BS. I’m a wife, Mom, Abi, Witch, eclectic, free-thinking, Priestess in training, wanna be gardener, who loves all things Faerie, cooking and everything about my life!
